The UK Martin Luther King Center takes pride in providing and collaborating on a multitude of quality programming opportunities to our campus community of students, faculty, staff, parents and members of the greater Lexington and regional communities. From weekly study tables to monthly identity-based programming and diversity retreats, trainings, forums and symposiums, the King Center offers something for everyone to engage, connect and learn. In collaboration with other campus offices, the King Center is also excited to provide concerts, movie screenings and more! 

Sister Circle

Sister Circle is a collaborative initiative between the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives (CGPDI) and the Martin Luther King Center (MLK Center) to explore and define positive and negative experiences faced by women of color in academia, professional spaces and in society. Through curated dialogues, community building and mentorship, Sister Circle provides professional, graduate and undergraduate women of color strategies to inspire self love, healthy living and interactions and professional and academic success.

My Brother's Keeper

Co-sponsored by the Center for Graduate and Professional Diversity Initiatives 

My Brother’s Keeper is a joint initiative between CGPDI and the King Center that empowers men of color at the University of Kentucky to connect with other students, faculty and staff. Through community, dialogue and mentoring, MBK aims to increase, encourage and support the inclusion and educational success of male students of color on campus by assisting in both their academic and professional goals.

Let's Talk

This program provides access to informal confidential conversations with licensed counselors from the UK Counseling Center. Counselors hold walk-in hours in our space every Wednesday from 12:30pm-2:30pm.

Lunch and Learn

Lunch and Learn is a monthly series that provides an opportunity for students to engage in dialogue with esteemed faculty and dynamic academic-based resources across the University of Kentucky to aid in developing their knowledge, skills and building a network of support. Lunch is provided.

King Cinema

King Cinema

King Cinema is a collaborative program between the Gatton Student Center Cinema and the Martin Luther King Center, showcasing films that provide entertainment and stimulating community dialogue about institutional power imbalances and social justice issues. Each of the showings are offered free to UK students, faculty, staff and community members.

Plated Discussions

Plated Discussions

Real talk, real issues, real people! Hosted in collaboration with Underground Perspective (UGP), MLK Center interns and an expert faculty advisor. Plated Discussions features engaging and thought provoking topics relating to race, gender, class and a variety of other identities. The program provides a platform for education and conversation between the presenters, faculty and the audience.

Tapas and Topics

Small plates, big issues. This conversation series is hosted in partnership with culturally based student organizations. It seeks to create space for conversation across differences as participants discuss many of the “taboo” topics in today’s society (religion, identity, politics, etc).
